The success of any law firm depends on the competence and expertise of partners, associates and support staff that make up the firm. At Placid & Emmanuel, P.C., we realize the wisdom in that statement and we have put in place an accomplished and aspiring team of individuals that are result oriented, while at the same time, committed to the highest standards of professionalism and excellence.

Placidus is the managing partner of the firm. Having practiced law in the state and federal courts of New York and Nigeria, since 1991, Placidus has developed an expertise and outstanding reputation as a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in Commercial and Corporate Civil Litigation, Personal Injuries, Bankruptcy, Immigration, Medical Malpractice and Matrimonial Causes.

Over the years, Placidus, in conjunction with Partners and Associates has recovered millions of Dollars for clients in Personal Injuries and Medical Malpractice cases. He provides consulting services for companies doing or seeking to do business with companies in African.

Placidus is currently the President of Nigerian Lawyers Association. He is a member of Association of Arbitrators of the Civil Court of the City of New York. He is also a member of New York State Bar Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, Nigerian Bar Association, Bronx County Bar Association, American Bar Association.

He has participated in seminars and has written several articles and legal opinions in newspapers and Internet sites. In addition, Placidus has been active in community awareness on both legal and social issues. He has made guest appearances in several radio and television programs, including The Voice of America, (VOA), Black Entertainment Televison (BET) and African Leadership Forum. Placidus has also served in the board of several organizations including the Nigerian Lawyers Association and Nigerians In Diaspora Organization (NIDO), an association of Nigerian professionals.

Placidus enjoys watching movies, golfing, tennis and swimming.

EMMANUEL ODOEMENE, ESQ

Emmanuel is one of the founding partners of the firm. A highly articulate and detailed lawyer, he was first admitted to practice law in Nigeria more than sixteen years ago. Prior to his admission to the New York Bar, Emmanuel was a partner with the law firm of Umeh Kalu & Associates, Lagos, Nigeria. At the same time period, he was an external Solicitor to Nigerian Merchant Bank PLC & First African Trust Bank PLC, Lagos. Since his admission to the New York bar, Emmanuel has worked on several litigation projects with the Government Affairs Division, AT&T, and the law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore, New York, and the firm of Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto, New York and the firm of Mbamali & Mbamali, where he was an associate.

Emmanuel is currently a member of the Board of Directors of The Libertarian Institute of Nigeria (an NGO). He is a Trustee & US Representative of the Tenants Solidarity Organization, Nigeria. Similarly, he holds the position of the Vice President & General Counsel of Shelter International, Inc.

Continuing Legal Education

As a matter of policy and to exceed the requirements of the legal profession, every member of our firm is required to attend a specified number of continuing legal education (CLE) classes every year. In addition, Placid & Emmanuel, P.C., holds periodic training and educational meetings to discuss current developments in practice areas. Our partners continue to be involved with organizing continuing legal education seminars. To encourage on the job training and intellectual growth, our firm maintains a scholarly approach to its practice and inspires all attorneys to confer relevant legal and business issues on an informal basis.

The firm keeps its members, associates, and affiliates informed of upcoming CLE events, and pays attendance fees and travel expenses for CLE classes. Our firm constantly acquire new training materials such as books, software, loose-leaf services, videotapes and manuals in order to stay up to date with the latest developments in the law. We use the services of Westlaw as our primary research source. In addition, for personal injury and medical malpractice cases, we use the award wining Saga software, which is arguably the best such software for personal injury and medical malpractice practice.
